A brief window into my life.

Today I drove my north Philadelphia middle school students to and from Baltimore for a squash match. On the way home, we start discussing World War II (one of them just read a book about it). Two of them had never heard of the Holocaust, so I had to try to explain that in simple terms. Then one says to me, “I read that Hitler won the Nobel Peace Prize. How did a guy like that win the Nobel Peace Prize?”

I spent the next ten minutes trying to explain, and finished it off with an Eddie Izzard quote:

“But he ended up in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire. So, that’s fun.”

I felt that was appropriate.

Maybe?

Maybe it’s the sleep deprivation speaking, but going to graduate school for mythology seems like an excellent idea right now. I really enjoy reading and analyzing myths—why not continue to educate myself in that? It would essentially be a comprehensive humanities degree, and that’s what my undergraduate studies boil down to.

It probably requires more than one sleepless night’s consideration, but I think that my thought process hasn’t strayed too far from the realm of logic.
